About Triathlon Mind training
Triathlons may be the toughest mental challenge you ever face. Not only do they take repeated practice to master the skills needed, but they are long. The shortest triathlons take about as long as a half marathon!
You can have the edge on your competition by training what they don’t - the mind. Triathlons are endurance events, and when we talk about training we are not just talking about the body. The top competitors have a vast array of mental methods to stay on top of the game and let the body perform at its maximum potential. These methods fall into two categories: Visualization and toughness.
Visualization has been practiced by pros in all sports for many years. This is where the athlete pictures himself executing the perfect move, the perfect race, the perfect win over and over again. It starts with the tiniest details and moves all the way up to visualizing the whole race day, from waking up to crossing the finish line. When you practice it in your mind dozens of times, the body is prepped to execute exactly what is needed like second nature.
Toughness is particular to endurance sports, and triathletes need it desperately. Some triathlons can take all day, and the opportunities to quit are ample. It is said that once the going gets hard, and it will, it is sheer willpower that takes athletes to the finish line. You need to know that there are athletes out there that actually enjoy swimming in rough water, biking into twenty mph. winds, and running up steep hills. They have trained the mind to attack those conditions head on without fear, especially because they know most others can’t. The truth is, anybody can. It is all in the mind!
The triathlete who combines visualization and toughness is truly a force to be reckoned with. He or she does not error, he or she does not falter, he she does not fear. When the opportunity opens to move up in the pack or take advantage of a situation, he or she is right there and taking it. Training is executed more effectively as well because there is no day too hot, too cold, too windy, or too hilly to practice some kind of training.
Work with this DVD set or individually and you will begin to notice that your races are executed better and that the conditions that used to bother you do not anymore. The greatest thing is that you already have this potential inside! We just show you how to unlock it.
Thanks and race smart,
